The Castro: June 3, 2008

Today, we went to the Castro District of San Francisco (marked with an "A"), 15.3 miles from our neighborhood and completely different from anything we've really seen before. Some of us were uncomfortable to be in such a different place, but there were many people who wanted to talk to us, answer our questions and make us feel welcome.

It's been so interesting to read about the wide range of reactions you've received in different places. It's great that the people you interacted with in Castro made you feel more welcome than you felt in some of the other places you visited.

I've always wondered what makes some people - and sometimes entire communities - more welcoming than others...
